    Boston-based Chinese tenor Xiao Shi specializes in the oratorio and concert repertoire. In summer 2024, Xiao made his role debut in Italy as Uriel in Die Schöpfung and Basilio in Le Nozze di Figaro with La Petite Bande Academy under the baton of historical performance pioneer Sigiswald Kuijken. Xiao’s 2024-25 season also includes solo appearances in Telemann’s rarely performed cantata Lass den Drachen Trotzen with First Lutheran Church of Boston, Monteverdi Vespers with Cantata Singers, and Mozart’s Vesperae de Dominica with Cambridge Community Chorus.

    In recent years, Xiao has appeared as a soloist with Masterworks Chorale and Boston Choral Ensemble. An experienced ensemble singer, he has performed with Seraphic Fire (PCI), Music at Marsh Chapel, the Shift Orchestra Project, Berkshire Choral International, and Yale Opera. Outside classical music, Xiao has sung backing vocals for pop icons Darren Criss and Ellie Goulding.

    Xiao studies with Ian Howell, W. Steven Smith, Nicholas Perna, and Kayla Gautereaux; he has performed in masterclasses by Christian Immler for Lied and Oratorio at the Mozarteum in Salzburg. Aside from singing, Xiao holds a degree in Computer Science from Yale, is a published researcher. His favorite pastime is playing with his friends’ dogs.
